The Big Guy

Herluf weighs about 120 pounds and is very tall

He's a really big doggie!

A new friend
Meet Herluf -- an Irish Wolfhound we've met on our walks a few times the past few weeks. He is big and very friendly. His person tells us that at home, when Herluf begs for food, he doesn't beg under the table -- he lays his head ON the table! He doesn't eat that much more food than regular-sized doggies but he needs a lot of water -- drinking many gallons per day. He is very sweet-tempered and easy-going. And, he's a good watchdog. According to his person, there were some thieves on their way into the house when they must have seen Herluf and then took off. They broke in but didn't steal anything.

Happy Holidays

I still remember all my tricks

Up and running again
After a long break I am now back. This week I am enjoying the holidays with my persons -- sleeping late and long walks. I am over my stomach problems. I even ate a few pieces of roasted duck for Christmas dinner.

Feeling Better

A Happy Birthday
I am slowly getting back on track. I missed out on all the festivities yesterday but was a happy puppy in the evening observing my person's new birthday present - a Swedish-made yarn swift and yarn winder. I don't understand what all the fuss is about but I thought it was quite interesting to watch it go round and round. The best present was the doggie in the snow-globe - who looks a lot like me!

Down and Out

Still groggy...

At least the color goes well with my suit

Like a Light
That's what I did - went out like a light. The doggie doctor wasted no time with his sleeping needle. I went out and he did his thing - removed my torn toe nail - OUCH! No fun. And it still hurts even after the dirty deed is done. Now I have to wear this red bandage.

Hard Work

Here I am taking a break from flying dummies

This is my sister, Fie, watching for flying dummies

Other doggies watching for flying dummies

When I'm not watching for flying dummies I like to visit with these two fellows

If dummies could fly
Today we learned how to watch for flying dummies. It's hard work for young doggies like me. Not only do we have to sit still and watch for them we have to remember where they fall, run out, find them and return them again. And, some of the dummies have fur on them - they are big and hard to carry. I would have liked to chew on one but we were not allowed.

Training Update

This big fellow has won lots of awards for prettiest doggie and most obedient and he's barely two years old!

Other black doggies waiting their turn to do their thing

Practice, practice, practice...

Smoothing out the rough spots
My training is going well. I can now sit, stay, come, heel, and retrieve my dummy and deliver to my person's hand sitting down and without dropping it! It won't be long before I can take the big obedience test ,and if I pass this test, then I will be a certified 100% "good" doggie (as if I'm not already!). I might even be allowed to join the retriever class starting up this fall!

Old Friend

Where is he? Is he really down there? When can we see him?

Please don't disturb me during nap time.

Make new friends and keep the old
Yesterday I visited my cousin and good friend Tacy. Little did I know that another "old friend" was napping nearby in the cellar. Remember Tiger? How can we forget? Well, here's proof that he's doing fine and is "happy" to be back home enjoying shrimp and his special hiding places.

Hot Town

Sometimes I chew on ice cubes to stay cool

Summer in Denmark
It's hot, hot, hot! I am considering dying my coat white. I spend most of my days under the picnic bench on the patio where I can catch a breeze or two. But in the evenings when things cool down I come alive and practice my retrieving and all the other neat tricks I can do now. I love to carry various objects around and drop them different places. For example, I love socks. If a sock is lying around I pick it up and carry it outside. Sticks and rocks in the yard? I carry them inside and drop them in the living room. A dead mole in the woods? I'll find it and deliver it right to your hand. You name it - I will carry and deliver it, no questions asked.

Not Just a Family Dog

Almost there
I have been training my person very hard and it's starting to pay off. She has now learned how to make me hold on to my dummy and deliver it to her hand on command. Not too bad for a family dog.

All Hands on Deck

Who says cats don't like water?
You see a lot of strange things down at the harbour. Yesterday my persons saw these two sailor cats hanging out on their yacht. Their person says that they stay in the cabin when the boat is sailing but when they reach harbour they come out and walk around on deck and even prowl around the harbour at night. But when their person starts the motor they run down into the cabin. I am not sure whether or not they wear a lifevest when sailing but I don't believe that they can swim as well as doggies do.

Summertime

Hot and sleepy...

And the living is easy
Not much news to report. It's hot and when you have a black coat like mine it's even hotter. The best thing to do is to head for the nearest shadow and snooze the summer away.

The Long Good-bye

What do you mean it's time to go home??!!

Here Tiger, let me help you into your travel case.

It's sure been nice having you here, Tiger.

Right this way, Tiger... your car is waiting.

Good-bye! Keep in touch.

So Long, Tiger
Today was the day we said good-bye to our, uh . . . , to Tiger. Knowing Tiger was an experience we'll never forget. And, we're all looking forward to a good night's sleep. Au revoir, my bushy-tailed friend.

Yours, Mine, Ours

Hey, Tiger! What are you doing up here?

What's it look like? I'm about to take a nap.

Now, Tiger, you know this is considered to be my bed.

Okay, okay. It's our bed.

Tiger's Tail

Here's Tiger's tail waving right in front of my nose

I'll get a hold of it one day...

Tiger says, "Don't bet on it!"

Temptation
Every once in a while I get the urge to grab Tiger's tail and really pull it. But so far I haven't had the nerve. Plus, Tiger is way too fast for me. And I don't dare do it those rare times when we are having a Kodak-moment; I'm afraid of what Tiger might do to my nose.

On the Road

That's me in the middle, enjoying all the attention.

Persons Everywhere
Yesterday I went for a long car drive to a new place. There were lots of persons running after balls, many new smells, and food scraps to sniff out and gobble up. There were even a few doggies. But I didn't feel much like playing. It was too hot.

All grown up
In honour of my very first birthday I now present a photo gallery of my first year. And, what a great year it's been. (Psst... if you listen carefully you might even hear Barbara singing: Memories...like the corners of my mind...)
